1945- Maurice “Rocket” Richard becomes the first player in NHL history to score 50 goals in a season, netting the milestone in the final game of the year.

1953 – Led by Don Schlundt scoring 30 points, Indiana beats Kansas 69-68 to win the NCAA men’s basketball national championship.

1953 – The Boston Braves move to Milwaukee.

1972 – The Cornell Men’s College hockey team is shut out for the first time in 225 games.

1981 – The Buffalo Sabres score an NHL record nine goals in a single period.

1990 – Loyola Marymount beats Michigan 149-115 in the highest-scoring NCAA tournament game ever.

1993 – Santa Clara beats Arizona 64-61 to become just the second ever #15 seed to beat a #2 seed in the opening round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

1995 – Michael Jordan ends his 17-month retirement from the NBA, famously faxing multiple news outlets with a two-word statement: “I’m back.”
