1888 – Heavyweight boxing champion John L. Sullivan and challenger Charlie Mitchell fight to a draw after 30 rounds.

1913 – The Quebec Bulldogs win the Stanley Cup, beating Sydney in two games.

1961 – Wilt Chamberlain becomes the first player in NBA history to score 3,000 points in a season.

1963 – Pete Rose makes his Spring Training debut, picking up hits in his first two at bats.

1985 – Dallas Mavericks coach Dick Motta becomes the fourth coach in NBA history to win 700 career games.

1991 – Oklahoma State men’s basketball coach Eddie Sutton becomes the first coach in college hoops history to lead four schools to the NCAA tournament. Sutton had previously taken Creighton, Arkansas, and Kentucky to The Big Dance.

1992 – New York Islanders coach Al Arbour becomes the second coach in NHL history to win 700 career games.

2002 – Utah Jazz guard John Stockton, already the career leader in the category, records his 15,000th career assist.

2018 – Texas Southern defeats Arkansas-Pine Bluff 84-69 to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament and earn a place in the NCAA tournament. With the win, Texas Southern improved to 15-19 on the season. They started the campaign 0-13, didn’t win a game until January and didn’t beat a single conference opponent during the regular season.
