1941 – Blackhawks goalie Sam LoPresti faces an NHL record 83 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Bruins.
1962 – Wilt Chamberlain scores 50 plus points for the fifth straight game, also adding 58 assists in that span.
1970 – The New York Rangers set an NHL record with going 126 games without being shutout.
1981 – Guy LaFleur of the Montreal Canadiens scores his 1,000th career point.
1990 – Loyola Marymount’s Hank Gathers collapses and dies on the court during a West Coast Conference game against Portland. He was just 23 years old.
1993 – The first ESPYs awards ceremony takes place.
2015 – Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook becomes the first player since Michael Jordan in 1989 to record triple-doubles in four consecutive games.
