1933 – The first MLB All Star Game takes place at Comiskey Park. The American League wins 4-2, thanks to Babe Ruth’s home run.

1941 – The Yankees unveil a monument to Lou Gehrig in center field at Yankee Stadium.

1956 – MLB introduces the Cy Young Award, honoring the best pitcher in each league.

1980 – Phillies pitcher Steve Carlton records career strikeout #2,836, which is the most by a lefty in MLB history.

1983 – Angels outfielder Fred Lynn hits the first grand slam in All Star Game history, helping the AL win 13-3 in the 50th All Star game, which took place at Comiskey Park.

1986 – Atlanta’s Bob Horner becomes the 11th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in one game.
