1914 – Honus Wagner becomes the second baseball player to ever record 3,000 career hits.

1945 – Following an 8-7 win over Philadelphia, Brooklyn Dodgers manager Leo Durocher is arrested after a fan said that Durocher punched him.

1965 – Runner Michael Jazy sets the world record in the mile, finishing in three minutes and 53.6 seconds.

1966 – The Minnesota Twins set an MLB record by hitting six home runs in one inning.

1984 – The Pittsburgh Penguins draft Mario Lemieux with the first overall pick in the NHL Draft.

1985 – The Los Angeles Lakers win the NBA championship after defeating the Celtics in game six of their series.

1990 – Eddie Murray, then with the Dodgers, ties Mickey Mantle’s record of hitting switch hit home runs in the same game 10 times in his career.

1993 – The Montreal Canadiens win their 24th Stanley Cup, defeating the LA Kings in five games.

2001 – The Colorado Avalanche defeat the New Jersey Devils 3-1 in Game #7 to win the Stanley Cup. Goalie Patrick Roy wins the Conn Smythe trophy (playoff MVP) for a record third time.

2003 – The New Jersey Devils beat the Anaheim Ducks in Game #7 to win the Stanley Cup.

2008 – Ken Griffey Jr. hits career home run #600, just the sixth player to reach that mark.

2010 – Patrick Kane nets an overtime goal to give the Blackhawks a 4-3 win over the Flyers and their first Stanley Cup since 1961.
