1989 – Dave Templin’s 2-0 Wallace Hornets, hosted Jerry Vlasic’s 2-0 Bishop Noll Warriors in a week three contest along 47th Avenue in Glen Park, where a close, hard fought, low scoring battle ensued, with Lew Wallace coming out ahead 13-11. The Hornets improved to 3-0 on the season with two of the wins coming over two eventual state champions (4A Hobart, 3A Noll). The Hornets finished the ’89 campaign 11-1, capturing the school’s – and the city’s ONLY sectional football championship.

1989 – The Griffith Panthers start the season with three straight shutouts, including a 16-0 week three white wash of the Munster Mustangs. Les Thorton’s squad won their first 10 games that season before falling in the sectional final to Bishop Noll. The 1989 season was the second of 21 straight years the Panthers would play in the sectional championship game.

1978 – Dave Shelbourne and his Fighting Trojans travel to north Hammond where they defeat the Bishop Noll Warriors 20-7. The win was the third of 10 straight for Highland, who advanced to the state tournament for the first time in school history, where they fell to Tommie Franks and the Hammond High Wildcats.
