This Day in Region Football History: 9/7

1973 – Don Howell’s Hobart Brickies traveled to Barney Hill Field on Columbia Ave in Munster where they beat the Mustangs in overtime by a score of 26-19.
 
1984 – The Hobart Brickies defeat the Valpo Vikings 27-8 in front of 6,000 fans at Brickie Bowl. The Boys of Howell won their first 13 games in ’84, before finally falling in the state championship game 28-8 against Jeff George and Warren Central.
 
1990 – The Merrillville Pirates, coached by Rick Wimmer, go to Portage where they outlast the Indians 21-20 in double overtime.
 
2007 – Three thousand Griffith Panther fans (Russ Radtke’s Rowdies) invade the Inferno for a week four cage match with the Red Devils. Radtke and his Panthers edge Kirk Kennedy’s club 29-28 in overtime. The two teams would meet later that season in the Regional. Check back in November for more on that one.
