THIS DAY IN REGION FOOTBALL HISTORY: 10/1

1965 – The Hammond Tech Tigers defeat their neighbor and nemesis Hammond High 14-6. The loss contributed to 4-5 record for the Wildcats – their first losing season since 1957.

1965 – Eddie Herbert’s Hornets of Lew Wallace win a black and blue slugfest at Gary’s Gilroy Stadium by a score of 6-0 over Harry Szulborski’s Emerson Golden Tornadoes.

1971 – The Lew Wallace Hornets and the Hobart Brickies go old school with a 0-0 final score. Believe it or not, the same two teams finished the 1964 game with the exact same score.

1999 – Kirk Kennedy and the Red Devils continue their dominance over Kankakee Valley with a 28-0 shutout at the Inferno. The win keeps the Devils unbeaten at 7-0, with five more wins to come.

1999 – The bridge on Ridge stays blue for a second straight year as Brad Smith and his Highland Trojans pound on the rival Munster Mustangs 45-8.

2004 – Andrean moved to 6-1 after a 38-0 whitewash of the Highland Trojans. Things will get interesting for the Niners the following week.

2010 – The Griffith Panthers improved to 4-3 with 25-17 week seven win over the neighboring Highland Trojans at the Boneyard.

2021 – The Michigan City Wolves improved their record to 4-3 with a 43-29 victory over Portage. Phil Mason’s team wouldn’t lose again until week 14.
