1904 – White Sox pitcher Doc White throws his fifth shutout in 18 days.

1927 – Babe Ruth hits his 60th homer of the season. 

1934 – Babe Ruth goes 0-3 at the plate in his final game as a New York Yankee.

1939 – Fordham defeats Waynesburg 34-7 in the first televised college football game.

1956 – At 16 years old, Jim Derrington of the White Sox becomes the youngest starting pitcher in MLB history.

1971 – Roberto Clemente becomes the 11th player in MLB history to reach 3,000 hits. 

1980 – Rickey Henderson, then with the Oakland A’s, sets the American League stolen base record by picking up his 97th steal of the year. 

1981 – The International Olympic Committee awards the 1988 Summer Olympics to Seoul, South Korea.

1984 – Angels pitcher Michael Witt throws a perfect game against the Texas Rangers. It is the 11th perfect game in MLB history. 

1990 – The White Sox beat the Mariners 2-1 in the final game played at old Comiskey Park.

1992 – George Brett becomes the 18th player in MLB history to reach 3,000th hits.

1997 – For the first time in MLB history, a team hits three consecutive homers in a playoff game as Tim Raines, Derek Jeter and Paul O’Neill go back to back to back in a game against the Indians.
