1936 – Babe Ruth turns down an offer from the Cincinnati Reds to make a un-retire and play for the team.

1948 – NHL president Clarence Campbell bans Billy Taylor of the Rangers and Don Gallagher of the Bruins due to connections to illegal gambling.

1958 – George Yardley of the Detroit Pistons becomes the first player in NBA history to score 2,000 points in a season.

1979 – MLB commissioner Bowie Kuhn orders teams to give equal access to female reporters.

1995 – Major League Baseball awards and expansion franchise to the city of Tampa, Florida.

2011 – Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love records his 52nd consecutive double-double, the longest streak since the NBA-ABA merger in 1976.

2013 – Liberty becomes just the second school to qualify for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament while also having 20 losses on the season. Liberty earned their spot in the bracket by winning the Big South Conference title.
