2000 – WWF owner Vince McMahon reveals his plans to start the XFL, which will debut on this same date in 2001.
2002 – The New England Patriots win Super Bowl XXXVI with a 20-17 victory over the St. Louis Rams. New England kicker Adam Vinatieri makes a 48 yard field goal as time expires to win the game. Pats quarterback Tom Brady is named MVP.
2006 – Devils goalie Martin Brodeur becomes the third goalie in NHL history to record 100 career shutouts.
2008 – The New York Giants defeat the New England Patriots 17-14 to win Super Bowl XLII, ending the Patriots’ undefeated season. Giants quarterback Eli Manning is the game’s MVP after throwing a touchdown to Plaxico Burress with 35 seconds left.
2013 – The Baltimore Ravens win the franchise’s second Super Bowl title, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 to capture Super Bowl XLVII. Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco is named MVP.
2019 – The Patriots win their sixth Super Bowl, defeating the Los Angeles Rams 13-3. Patriots receiver Julian Edelman is the game’s MVP.
