1924 – Great Britain wins the first ever Olympic gold medal in curling.

1971 – The UCLA men’s basketball team begins what would be an 88 game winning streak.

1983 – The Washington Redskins defeat the Miami Dolphins 27-17 to win Super Bowl XVII. Washington running back John Riggins is named MVP.

1990 – Wayne Gretzky sets an NHL record by scoring 100 or more points in 11 straight seasons.

1994 – The Dallas Cowboys beat the Buffalo Bills 30-13 to win Super Bowl XXVIII. Dallas running back Emmitt Smith is the game’s MVP.

1996 – Basketball great Magic Johnson ends his five year retirement and returns to the Lakers. In his first game back, he puts up 19 points to go along with 10 assists and eight boards.

2000 – The St. Louis Rams win Super Bowl XXXIV with a 23-16 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Rams quarterback Kurt Warner is named MVP.

2002 – Karl Malone becomes the second player in NBA history to score 34,000 career points, trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most in league history.

2018 – Houston Rockets guard James Harden puts up the highest scoring triple-double in NBA history, scoring 60 points to go along with 11 assists and 10 rebounds.
