1879 – The US National Archery Association is formed in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

1953 – The assets of the former Dallas Texans NFL franchise, including the players, are awarded to a new franchise which would be named the Baltimore Colts.

1967 – Stan Musial is named General Manager of the St. Louis Cardinals

1975 – Ralph Kiner is elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his 15th, and final, year of eligibility.

1979 – Willie Mays is elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. With a career that spanned 22 seasons that saw he him hit 660 home runs and drive 1,903 runs, 23 voters left Mays off the ballot.

1981 – Mike Bossy becomes the first player in NHL history to score 50 goals in 50 games.

1983 – Tennis great Bjorn Borg announces his retirement. Borg was a five time Wimbledon champ and a six time French Open champ.

1998 – Michael Jordan scores in double figures for the 800th consecutive game.

2011 – The Packers beat the Bears 21-14 in the NFC Championship game.

2015 – Golden State guard Klay Thompson sets an NBA record for points in a quarter by putting up 37 points in a quarter, along with an NBA record nine three-pointers in a quarter, in a 126-101 win over the Kings.

2018 – LeBron James becomes the seventh player in NBA history to score 30,000 career points. At 33 years and 24 days old, he’s the youngest player to reach that mark.
