Boilermakers Local 374 Athletes of the Week – 12/5/18

WRESTLING: AJ FOWLER – CALUMET WARRIORS

The Calumet senior grappler took him his second straight Harvest Classic title, dominating the 220 pound weight class. In his four matches, Fowler pinned three of his opponents (two of those in the first) and won the other by major decision.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: MORGAN KOBZA – KOUTS FILLIES

Morgan Kobza helped lead the way for the Kouts Fillies with an outstanding three game stretch. In games against Washington Twp., South Central, and Hanover Central, Kobza totaled 50 points to go along with 39 rebounds, 11 steals and four blocks. Not only did the junior fill up the stat sheet, but she was lauded by the coaching staff for her “hard work, effort, and commitment to the game”.

BOYS BASKETBALL: DOMINIQUE SMITH – LAKE STATION EAGLES

Not only did Lake Station’s Dominique Smith had back to back impressive performances against both Calumet Christian and Griffith, putting up 41 against the Panthers, he reached a career milestone as he scored his 1,000th career point in the game against Griffith. Congrats to Dominique on the milestone and for being the Dutch Farms Athlete of the Week for boys hoops!

GIRLS SWIMMING – JOURIE WILSON – LAKE CENTRAL INDIANS

LC’s Jourie Wilson had a dominant meet against DAC rival Valpo! Not only did she win both the 50 Freestyle and the 100 backstroke, she was a member of the winning 400 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relay teams! An impressive performance for any athlete in the pool, but particularly a freshman!

BOYS SWIMMING: ANDREW ALDERS – CHESTERTON TROJANS

Andrew Alders took control of the pool a couple of times last week, winning the 500 Freestyle, 200 IM and was on the winning relays in the 200 Freestyle and 200 Medley against Crown Point. But he wasn’t done there. Alders also won the 100 Fly and was part of the victorious 400 Freestyle relay at the Hall of Fame Classic!
