#1	LAPORTE SLICERS 5-0/3-0

Last Week: #1

The Slicers are on a roll and remain at the top for a fourth straight week, so we don’t need to butter them up anymore than we have already. Of course, being on a roll in the Duneland only means that someone’s looking to take a bite of you every week. This Friday the Pirates come to Kiwanis aiming to chew that roll to pieces.

#2	VALPARAISO VIKINGS 3-2/2-1

The Vikings took care of business against the Trojans in rather easy fashion on Friday. Next up is a homecoming date with Crown Point, but the Bulldogs aren’t accepting a warm reception. The loss to LaPorte hurt but a conference title isn’t completely out of the question. The Vikes just need to keep winning.

#3	WHITING OILERS 5-0/3-0

Last Week: #3

The Oilers are looking good through the first half of the season and are now 5-0 for the fourth time in five years. This week’s opponent Hanover Central is 5-0 for the first time ever. That said, expect an unusually high number people to descend upon the Oil City during the six o’clock hour to see these two battle it out for the Greater South Shore championship.

#4	MICHIGAN CITY WOLVES 4-1/2-1

Last Week: #5

The Wolves’ win was impressive at Merrillville on Friday and ended a long streak of Michigan City futility against the team in purple, and they therefore jump the Pirate ship in the rankings. LC comes to beautiful Ames Field with a four game losing streak but that doesn’t mean City will take them lightly. A date with cross county rival LaPorte awaits down the road and so too does a potential DAC championship game, but they gotta keep winning.

#5	MERRILLVILLE PIRATES 3-2/2-1

The Pirates had hoped to sail into the Maple City with the wind at their back, but then gave up 42 at home to a school they hadn’t lost to in 15 years. The Bucs got the better of the two teams directly below them so we’re going to keep them in the top five for the time being, but they’ll need to get back on course to keep the ship afloat.

#6	PORTAGE INDIANS 3-2/2-1

Last Week: #7

The Tribe took one from Crown town on the road to spoil the Bulldogs homecoming. This week they’ll look to do the same at Chesterton. A win Friday gives the Indians four on the season – twice the total of the last two years combined. If you’re a Portage fan the future is getting brighter…and so is the present.

#7	CROWN POINT BULLDOGS 2-3/1-2

Last Week: #6

The Dogs had hoped to celebrate their homecoming with a win but Portage put an end to that. Now Kevin Enright and his crew will look to ruin Valpo’s party at Viking Field this week. The Dogs are much improved but a loss puts them at two games under .500 through six weeks, which means they’ll need to win out if they want a post a winning regular season record. No easy task but not out of the question. Just win baby.

#8	HANOVER CENTRAL WILDCATS 5-0/3-0

With the 500 pound gorilla that is the week five matchup against Boone Grove now off their collective backs, the Wildcats are 5-0 for not only the first time since the return of Hanover Central football, but they never ever reached that mark in the first go-around at HC (1968-71). What’s their reward for the historical start? A trip to north to take on the #3 Oilers.

#9	MUNSTER MUSTANGS 3-2/2-0

We’re going to be honest. After the opening week shellacking the Mustangs took at the hands of Lake Central, we didn’t think they be in contention to make the rankings this season. We were still doubtful after the home loss to Chesterton. But three straight wins over Highland, Andrean and Morton not only put the ‘Stangs in the Top 10 for the first time this season, it also puts them in sole possession of first place in the NCC. This week rival Griffith invades the Marsh Lands for maybe the last time.

#10	HOBART BRICKIES 3-2/2-1

Last Week: #8

Every team has a bad night here or there were they don’t play up to expectations and that’s exactly what happened to Hobart a week ago as they lost by 27 points to Andrean. For now, the Brickies are hanging in the Top 10 by the hairs of their chinny-chin-chins. A less than stellar performance against Lowell removes all benefit of the doubt they receive this week.
