CROWN POINT BULLDOGS 1-1 |
↔
Last Week: #10
Just because Crown Point couldn’t clobber the Cavemen doesn’t mean they’ll take a tumble from the Top 10. There’s a new found belief that this team is much better than last years version. The Bulldogs come barking into Demarree for the Duneland opener on Friday night.

LOWELL RED DEVILS 0-2 |
↓
Last Week: #7
The Devils are down, not dead. They’re also tied at 10 with Crown Town. But this is it – if they can’t conquer KV, they can’t stay. 0-2 barely. 0-3? Forget about it.
#9 |
GRIFFITH PANTHERS 1-1 |
↑
Last Week: NR
The Panthers pounded the Bearcats in every way during their week two tilt at the stadium formerly known as the Boneyard and their appearance in the Region Sports Top 10 is their first since 2012. The future appears to be arriving early in G-town, but now comes NCC play, where there are Brickies, not Bearcats. And oh by the way: this is it for Griffith in the Northwest Crossroads – the last games in several legendary rivalries will take place over the next several weeks, sad to say.
#8 |
PORTAGE INDIANS 1-1 |
↑
Last Week: NR
The red Indians are indeed one of the most improved programs in the early going. The come from behind win over Lowell at the Inferno will be remembered by Portage players for years to come. This week they’ve got the blue Indians to deal with, so it’s out of the fire, but into the frying pan.

MERRILLVILLE PIRATES (1-1) |
↓
Last Week: #6
Penn pounded the players in purple. What else can you say? An angry and improved busload of Bulldogs are coming up Broadway this week. The Pirates should be angry too. Can you say slugfest?
#6 |
MICHIGAN CITY WOLVES (2-0) |
↑
Last Week: #9
Mason and Richards together. What did you expect? A trip up Route 20 to Banary Field will tell us whether the Wolves have reason to keep howling.
#5 |
VALPARAISO VIKINGS (1-1) |
↔
Last Week: #5
It’s hard to gauge the Green after just two legitimate quarters of football. The second half against Penn and the entire West Side game are the exact opposite in every way. Scheduling Penn is understandable, even admirable to some degree, but the West Side game is downright charitable. Now comes the Duneland. LaPorte heads to the Porter County hub for week three, so we’ll know more about the Vikings around 9 o’clock Friday.
#4 |
WHITING OILERS (2-0) |
↔
Last Week: #4
The Oilers were pretty much taken to the wire by Gavit in their week #2 showdown, but they survived with a 2-0 record intact. Next up is prime time once again for Whiting as they play their second Saturday night game in three weeks – this time a matchup against Boone Grove to close out Week #3.
#3 |
LAKE CENTRAL INDIANS (1-1) |
↓
Last Week: #1
The last minute loss to Lincoln-Way Central in front of a big home crowd was like a kick in the head – you’ll remember it long after the pain is gone. The Indians may still be the best team in the area and with Duneland games starting this week, they’ll get a chance to prove it. A trip to the Warpath for a match up with the other Indians is next. Anyone remember what happened the last time these two played?
#2 |
CHESTERTON TROJANS (2-0) |
↑
Last Week: #3
Twice the Trojans have triumphed in tooth-and-nail tussles to remain undefeated. This week the Wolves come howling. It just keeps getting better and better.
#1 |
LAPORTE SLICERS (2-0) |
↑
Last Week: #2
The Slicers hammered Hobart at home in their Maple City match up. Next for the orange and black is a visit to Viking Field in Valpo for the first conference clash of the season. And oh by the way, LaPorte @ #1 is a first…for us, for them, for everybody. Of course, getting there’s one thing, staying there is another. Ask Lake Central.
