1936 – Jay Berwanger from the University of Chicago is the first player ever selected in the NFL Draft. Berwanger is drafted by the Eagles and then traded to the Bears.
1945 – Paul Brown agrees to coach the new expansion football team in Cleveland, which would later be named the Browns in his honor.
1962 – Wilt Chamberlain sets a single-season scoring record in the NBA by scoring 3,033 points on the year.
1963 – The AFL’s Dallas Texans move to Kansas City and become the Chiefs.
1970 – Gordie Howe becomes the first player in NHL history to score 750 career goals.
1986 – Atlanta’s Spud Webb, at just 5’7” tall wins the NBA Slam Dunk contest.
1996 – The NFL and City of Cleveland allow owner Art Modell to move the Browns to Baltimore as long as he leaves the Browns name behind.
2003 – Mario Lemieux becomes the 10th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career assists.
