1926 – The New York Rangers play in the franchise’s first ever game, defeating the Montreal Maroons 1-0.

1929 – USC and Notre Dame play a football game in front of 112,912 people at Solider Field in Chicago. The Fighting Irish win 13-12.

1945 – The EC Roosevelt Rough Riders win the mythical football state championship after beating SB Central 23-0.

1957 – The University of Oklahoma football team’s record 47 game winning streak comes to an end with a 7-0 loss to Notre Dame.

1957 – Hall of Fame Boston Celtics center, Bill Russell, sets a record with 49 rebounds in a single game. 

1969 – Richard Nixon becomes the first sitting US President to attend an NFL game, as he watches the Cowboys beat the Redskins 41-28.

1982 – The NFL Management Council and the NFL Player’s Association reach a settlement, ending a 57 day strike.

2003 – Soccer legend, Lionel Messi, makes his official debut for FC Barcelona as a 16-year-old.
