1943 – The Detroit Lions and New York Giants play in the last scoreless tie in NFL history.
1963 – Yankees catcher Elston Howard is the first African-American player to win the AL MVP award.
1964 – The National League rules that the Braves have to stay in Milwaukee for the 1965 season, but may move in 1966.
1981 – Hobart beats Griffith in the Regionals 21-0, handing the Panthers their first loss of the year. It’s the first meeting between the two programs since 1960.
1986 – The Gavit Gladiators win the only football sectional championship in program history, beating KV 9-7.
1991 – Magic Johnson announces that he has the HIV virus and retires from basketball.
1997 – Hobart wins their last football sectional title under Don Howell, beating Wirt 63-18. It is the 19th consecutive sectional championship for the Brickies. They wouldn’t win another one until 2016.
