1869 – The first collegiate football game is played between Rutgers and Princeton.
1929 – The first pro football game held at night takes place as the Chicago Cardinals defeated the Providence Steamrollers 16-0.
1956 – The Netherlands and Spain withdrew from the Olympics in protest of the Soviet Union’s actions in the Hungarian Revolution.
1967 – Gary Froebel football plays in the final game in program history, losing to Lowell 40-7.
1969 – The first Cy Young Award is a tie between Mike Cuellar and Denny McLain.
1974 – Mike Marshall of the Dodgers becomes the first reliever to win the Cy Young Award.
1976 – Bill Campbell becomes the first free agent in MLB history to leave his old team (Minnesota Twins) to sign with a new team – the Boston Red Sox.
1995 – Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell officially announces that the team is moving to Baltimore.
