1960 – Michigan City hands Hobart their first loss of the season – a 19-18 nail biter played at City High School.
1960 – Bernie Krueger’s Hammond Wildcats blank EC Washington 20-0 to remain undefeated. The ‘Cats would finish the season a perfect 10-0.
1988 – Hammond High beats Lowell 34-6 in the Class 4A playoffs. The Wildcats would make it all the way to semi-state after upsetting Hobart in the regional championship.
1988 – Long time Portage coach Les Klein picks up the final win of his long career, a 45-0 victory over South Bend Riley at the Warpath on Rt 6.
1988 – Coached by Brad Smith and led by quarterback Mike Bauner, the Crown Point Bulldogs start the playoffs with a 35-6 win over West Side. The ’88 Bulldogs would eventually win the regional – the only one in Crown Point football history to that point.
1994 – Hammond High goes to 9-0 with a 25-0 sectional shut out of Garyn Roosevelt.
1994 – The Portage Indians improve to 9-0 with a 42-0 shutout of South Bend Adams. It is the first ever state tournament victory for new coach Craig Buzea. The Tribe travel to the state finals, where they fell to Castle by a score of 301-2.
1994 – Lake Central pounds the Pirates of Merrillville 34-7 in the sectional opener.
1994 – Dave Templin records his last win as head coach of the Lew Wallace Hornets by a score of 40-9 over EC Central at the Badlands off Broadway.
2005 – Jeff Yelton’s Merrillville Pirates destroy Lake Central 41-3 in the sectional opener at the Burial Grounds. The Bucs made it to semi-state that season with an 11-3 record.
2005 – The undefeated Griffith Panthers began their playoff journey with a 57-7 win over Clark at the Boneyard. The Panthers would win the regional and finish the season 13-1.
2005 – Morton beats Andrean 24-10 on the campus of Hessville High.
2005 – Crown Point moves to 10-0 with a 45-20 playoff opening win over the Valpo Vikings.
2005 – The undefeated Whiting Oilers open the tournament with a 43-0 white wash of River Forest on the shores of Lake Michigan.
2005 – Chesterton outscores Portage 48-29 in the Class 5A sectional one opener. The Indians end the season with a mark of 2-8, their worst finish since 1986.
2011 – Merrillville beats Lake Central 30-24 in the opening game of the Class 5A sectional at Demarree Stadium.
2011 – Mishawaka buries the Red Devils 35-14 at the Inferno in the Class 4A sectional 10 opener.
2011 – Ryan Turley wins his tournament debut with the Brickies 24-20 over South Bend Clay.
2011 – Wheeler shocks undefeated Andrean at the Holy Lands 12-7 in the Class 2A sectional opener.
