1988 – Kirk Gibson of the Dodgers hits a home run with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to give LA a win in game one of the World Series.
1989 – Wayne Gretzky passes Gordie Howe to become the NHL’s all-time leading scorer.
1995 – The Carolina Panthers win first game in existence over the Jets, 26-15.
2003 – The Marlins beat the Cubs in game seven to win the NLCS.
