1915 – Ty Cobb steals his 96^th base of the season, setting a record that would last until 1962.

1921 – The Yankees beat the Giants 3-0 in the first World Series game broadcast on the radio.

1932 – The Detroit Falcons officially changed their name to the Detroit Red Wings.

1985 – Eddie Robinson becomes the winningest coach in college football history as Grambling beats Prairie View 27-7, giving the coach his 324th career victory. 

1991 – Fresno State ties an NCAA football record for most points in a game in their 94-17 victory over New Mexico.

2002 – For the first time in the 42-year history of the franchise, the Anaheim Angels win a playoff series as they beat the Yankees in the ALDS 3-1.

2004 – Scottie Pippen announces his retirement from the NBA.

2006 – Brendan Shanahan, then with the New York Rangers, becomes the 15th player in NHL history to score 600 goals. 

2014 – The Cleveland Browns erase a 25-point deficit to beat the Tennessee Titans 29-28 in Tennessee. It is the largest comeback in NFL history by a road team.

2014 – Peyton Manning throws the 500th career touchdown pass against the Arizona Cardinals.
