1903 – Boston Beaneater pitcher Wiley Piatt becomes the only pitcher in the 20th century to lose two complete games in one day, dropping both games to Pittsburgh 1-0 and 5-3.

1918 – Babe Ruth becomes the second player in American League History to hit a home run in four consecutive games.

1926 – Bobby Jones is the first amateur golfer since 1897 to win the British Open.

1948 – Joe Louis knocks out Jersey Joe Walcott in the 11th round to defend his world heavyweight title. After the bout, Louis announces his retirement.

1968 – Bobby Bonds hits a grand slam in his first career game.

1991 – Tennis great Martina Navratilova wins a record 100th career match at Wimbledon.

1997 – The San Antonio Spurs draft Wake Forest center Tim Duncan with the #1 overall pick in the NBA Draft.

1999 – The Spurs beat the Knicks in five games to win the NBA title. The Spurs are the first former ABA team to win an NBA championship.

2003 – The ball hit by Barry Bonds that was his record 73rd home run of the season is sold at auction for $517,500.

2009 – The Los Angeles Clippers select Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin with the first pick in the NBA Draft.

2018 – Edwin Jackson ties an MLB record when he takes the mound for the Oakland A’s. Oakland was the 13th team Jackson played for, tying Octavio Dotel for the most all-time. Jackson previously pitched for the LA Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres, and Baltimore Orioles.
