1936 – Jesse Owens sets a world record in the 100 meter dash at 10.2 seconds in a meet in Chicago.

1950 – Joe DiMaggio picks up career hit #2,000.

1973 – Chicago’s Cy Acosta becomes the first American League pitcher to bat since the DH rule was implemented. He strikes out.

1973 – Bobby Bonds of the San Francisco Giants sets a National League record with 22 lead off home runs.

1982 – Pete Rose becomes the fifth player in MLB history to appear in 3,000 games.

1986 – Jim Fregosi replaces Tony La Russa as manager of the White Sox.

1992 – Lake Central wins the softball state championship, defeating Center Grove 4-2.

1993 – The Bulls beat the Phoenix Suns in six games to win the NBA title. John Paxson’s three-pointer with 3.9 seconds left gave the Bulls a 99-98 win.
