1851 – The New York Knickerbockers are the first baseball team to wear uniforms, donning white shirts, blue trousers and straw hats.

1925 – White Sox player-manager Eddie Collins becomes the sixth player in MLB history to collect 3,000 career hits.

1932 – Lou Gehrig becomes the first player in American League history to hit four homers in one game.

1971 – Cubs pitcher Ken Holtzman throws a no-hitter, shutting down the Reds. It’s the second no-hitter of his career.

1978 – Dave Johnson of the Phillies becomes the first player in MLB history to hit two pinch-hit grand slams in one season.

1980 – The New York Mets draft Darryl Strawberry with the first overall pick in the MLB Draft.

1987 – The Cubs and Astros combine for a record three grand slams in one game.

1995 – Pedro Martinez, then with the Expos, throws nine perfect innings before giving up a double in the 10th inning of a 1-0 Montreal win over San Diego.

2017 – Albert Pujols hits a grand slam for career home run #600. He’s the ninth player in MLB history to reach that mark.
