1941 – Lou Gehrig dies from ALS at age 37.

1942 – Red Sox slugger Ted Williams enlists in the US Navy during World War II.

1959 – A White Sox-Orioles game at Comiskey Park is delayed for nearly 30 minutes to an infestation of gnats on the field.

1990 – Randy Johnson throws the first no-hitter in Seattle Mariners history.

1996 – Houston pitcher Darryl Kile ties a MLB record by hitting four batters in one game. He’s the first National League pitcher to do that since 1957.

2000 – Fred McGriff, then with the Tampa Bay Rays, becomes the 31st player in MLB history to hit 400 career home runs.

2000 – Cubs closer RIck Aguilera becomes the 13th pitcher in MLB history to record 300 career saves.

2002 – Phillies pitcher Robert Person drives in seven runs, including hitting a grand slam and a three run homer in an 18-3 win over Montreal.

2010 – Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga loses a perfect game after umpire Jim Joyce rules Cleveland runner Jason Donald safe at first with two outs in the ninth. Joyce later admits he blew the call.
