1914 – White Sox pitcher Joe Benz throws a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians.

1927 – Detroit Tigers first baseman Johnny Neun records an unassisted triple play in a win over the Indians. Neun grabs a line drive, tags a runner at first and then runs to second base to get the third out on the force.

1983 – The Philadelphia 76ers sweep the Lakers to win the NBA title.

1987 – The Edmonton Oilers win their third Stanley Cup title, beating the Flyers 3-1 in game seven.

1997 – Ila Borders becomes the first woman to pitch in a regular season professional baseball game, appearing for the St. Paul Saints in a game against Sioux Falls.

2008 – Usain Bolt breaks the world record in the 100m sprint with a time of 9.72 seconds.
