1742 – The world’s first indoor swimming pool opens in London.

1946 – The Washington Senators defeat the Yankees 2-1 in the first night game at Yankee Stadium.

1951 – Willie Mays hits his first major league home run.

1956 – Dale Long of the Pittsburgh Pirates sets an MLB record by hitting a home run in his eighth straight game. Long homered off Brookly Dodgers pitcher, and Indiana native, Carl Erskine.

1957 – Major League Baseball approves the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants’ moves to Los Angeles and San Francisco, respectively.

1973 – The White Sox beat the Indians 6-3 in 21 innings in a game that started on 5/26.

 

1978 – Al Unser becomes the fifth driver two win three Indy 500 races.


1989 – Emerson Fittipaldi of Brazil becomes the first foreign born racer to win the Indy 500 since 1966.

2003 – Legendary goalie Patrick Roy officially announces his retirement from the NHL.

2006 – Barry Bonds hits career home run #715, moving him past Babe Ruth into second place on the all-time list.

2016 – Golden State’s Klay Thompson sets an NBA record by hitting 11 three-pointers in a playoff game.
