1875 – “Aristides” wins the first ever Kentucky Derby. 

1915 – Cubs reliever George “Zip” Zabel records the longest relief appearance ever. Zabel enters the game with two outs in the first inning and ends up with a 4-3 win in 19 innings.

1939 – The first televised baseball game is aired on NBC with Princeton defeating Columbia 2-1.

1970 – Hank Aaron becomes the ninth player in MLB history to record 3,000 career hits.

1983 – The New York Islanders defeat the Edmonton Oilers to win their fourth straight Stainley Cup.

1998 – Yankees pitcher David Wells throws a perfect game against the Minnesota Twins.
