1924 – Frank Carauna of Buffalo, NY becomes the first person to ever bowl two straight perfect 300 games.

1966 – Major League Baseball player reps select Marvin Miller as the executive director of the MLB Players Association. 

1973 – New York Yankees pitchers Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich announce that they’ve swapped wives and children.

1985 – New York Islanders forward Mike Bossy becomes the first player in NHL history to score 50 or more goals in eight straight seasons.

1996 – Earl Weaver and Jim Bunning are elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

1997 – Tomma Lasorda, Nellie Fox, and Willie Wells are elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

2004 – The Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers combine for an NHL record 419 penalty minutes, with the Flyers setting the team record of 213. In the final two minutes of the game, five brawls broke out including one featuring the two goalies.

2009 – Former Cubs outfielder Moises Alou announces that he will retire, following the World Baseball Classic.
