1977 – The Chicago Cubs trade Outfielder Rick Monday to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Bill Buckner.
1983 – The New York Yankees name Billy Martin as their new manager. This marks the third time that Martin has managed the Yankees.
1983 – The Edmonton Oiler’s Pat Hughes breaks Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record for the fastest two shorthanded goals by one player at just 25 seconds apart in a 7-5 win over St. Louis.
1984 – The Denver Nuggets down the San Antonio Spurs 163-155 in the highest scoring non overtime NBA Game.
1990 – Indiana University head basketball coach, Bobby Knight becomes the Big Ten’s winningest coach (229).
1990 – New York Islander Pat LaFontaine sets Islander record for scoring goals in 11 straight games.
1995 – NHLPA and the owners agree to end a 103 day lockout. The Lockout caused the season to be shortened to 48 games, at that time the shortest season in 53 years.
2001 – The New York Knicks hold an opponent under 100 points for an NBA record 29 consecutive games. The streak snaps a 46 year old NBA record of 28 straight games set by the Fort Wayne Pistons in 1954-55.
2004 – “4th and 26” Trailing the Green Bay Packers by three in the NFC Divisional Playoff Game, The Philadelphia Eagles face a 4th & 26 on their drive. Donovan McNabb hits Freddie Mitchell for 29 yards. The Eagles tie the game and go on to win in overtime.
