OUTLOOK: After the last regular season game for Valparaiso in 2022, it may have been difficult to predict the Vikings running the table all the way to their first state championship since 1975. But sure enough, they did.
There is a commonality among sports teams that win it all – a potential “championship hangover.” The funny thing is, the consensus among the Valparaiso faithful is that the 2023 team was supposed to be the one to make a trip to Lucas Oil, and that claim definitely checks out.
The Vikings are a senior-led bunch, returning their dual-threat signal caller in Justin Clark, along with their three best weapons on the ground in the area’s most lethal rushing attack. Some All-State talent will also be back in green this fall, featuring Toledo commit Matt Hofer and a ballhawk DB in Tyler VerSchure.
The question will loom, are the 2023 Vikings even better than their State-Championship winning team of 2022?
