OUTLOOK: A 9-2 campaign in 2022 was the program’s most successful season since 2014. However, it may have left some of the Calumet faithful wanting even more. Although the promising record, the Warriors finished second in the GSSC’s South Division and lost in the Sectional Semis to West Lafayette.
Looking to 2023, the team has to replace an All-State WR in David Flores, and a second receiver in the highly-talented Terrell Caldwell, who transferred to Hobart.
It is also a new coaching era in Calumet, as Charles Salary was hired as the Warrior’s Head Coach this offseason. Salary walks into the program surrounded by some valuable pieces. It starts with the Ponce brothers, Alex and Anthony.
Alex is a force on the defensive side, while Anthony is one on offense. To put it lightly, the Ponce brothers are a two-headed machine that will be the on-and-off-the-field leaders for the Warriors in 2023. In addition to them, Nazir Smith is a name to look out for, as he was one of the top sophomores a year ago.
With the reigning division champ (Hanover Central) now out of the conference, Cal could make plenty of noise in the conference.
