FOOTBALL: RSN Top 10 – Week #7

After weeks of being on the outside looking in, the Indians finally enter the RSN Top 10 after a road win at Michigan City. Not only have the Tribe already improved on last season’s win total, but their four victories are the most for the program since 2016. That should give the home fans plenty to cheer about at Homecoming this week when LC welcomes in Chesterton. A victory clinches a winning regular season - something they haven’t had since 2015.

Last week’s 48-6 victory over EC Central gives the Wolves four wins in a row and keeps them undefeated at their new home. Hammond Central has allowed six points or less in four of their six games, and the offense has scored 30 or more five times – all of which is a recipe for success. But all that means nothing this week with cross city rival Morton coming to “The Den.” Last season’s game never happened, so this is the first time these two have played. The Wolves have to be considered the favorite, but when city bragging rights are on the line, throw out the records.

The Warriors should have no problems getting back to their one-sided victory ways this week with a trip to winless SB Clay on the schedule. Another tight one this week could be cause for concern.

While we haven’t seen the consistency we thought we would from Hobart this year, we do know this team fights all the way to the very end - and they sometimes wait until the fourth quarter to play their best football. They’ll need to come out on fire this week when they hit the road to take on a KV squad ready to rebound from last week’s loss to Lowell. Can the Brickies afford another slow start against a team hungry for a win? We’ll find out

Still, that doesn’t change the fact that this is a solid Valpo squad that is hardnosed and well coached. We’re not writing them off by any stretch of the imagination, and it’d be a mistake if other teams in the DAC didn’t do the same.

What else is there to say about the ‘Cats except that if you haven’t seen them in person - go check out the Region’s version of the Greatest Show on Turf.

If so, that’s where the Pirates are as there’s so much buzz around the top ranked Bulldogs and teams like Hanover Central, that Merrillville, and their consistent, if not spectacular, play isn’t generating the same buzz as usual. The Pirates aren’t thought to be quite as good as a year ago, but we’re coming up to the time of year when the Purple Gang reminds the rest of the Region that they’re a perennial power.
Can a 5-1 team that’s ranked #2 in the Region be flying under the radar?
