FOOTBALL: RSN Top 10 – Week #6

The Red Devils hang on to their spot in the RSN rankings, but only by the length of a tine on a pitchfork following the loss to Hobart last week. Why does Lowell stay in despite a 2-3 mark? How about because the Devils three losses have come to opponents (Crown Point, New Prairie and the aforementioned Brickies) that are a combined 13-2, so strength of schedule keeps them in. The Devils are 0-2 at “The Inferno” this year and that needs to get turned around quickly, especially with Lowell legend Kirk Kennedy and his KV Kougars coming in this week. Chances are they won’t stay in the rankings with a loss Friday night.

For the Wolves, the old saying is true; “there’s no place like home”, as they continue to put on a show for the home faithful and are now 3-0 at their new stadium. The good news is that they have two more games at “The Wolves Den” before they hit the road again, and considering both of those matchups are with conference games (EC Central and the cross town battle with Morton), the Wolves will be happy to have that home field advantage.

The Kougars need to ride this wave of momentum into game six, as they head to Lowell in the annual “Milk Jug” game. We have a feeling, considering who’s now on the KV sidelines, this one will have a little more emotion than usual. The Kougars haven’t won at “The Inferno” since 2014, but needless to say Kirk Kennedy knows how to win at that field. Can he do it from the visiting sidelines though?

Considering how one-sided this rivalry was in favor for the Panthers from 1984 through last year, we know the Warriors will want to make a statement in front of the returning fans..Calumet won this matchup last year 14-10, but don’t be surprised if that differential is much higher this time around.

There’s time to exhale, but not celebrate the win over the Trojans as the top ranked Crown Point Bulldogs come to Viking Field this week. Valpo can propel themselves to the top of the DAC standings, and up the RSN rankings, with a win, but a loss puts them behind the eight ball in the quest for the conference crown.
