The Panthers make an early leap into the RSN rankings after their dramatic come from behind win over rival Highland in the annual Battle of the Bike Path. Showing some of the gutsy, roll the dice play-calling that highlighted the glory days of Panther football, coach Rob Robinson elected to go for two following a score that cut Highland’s lead to 21-20. The Griffith conversion put them over the top and they held on for the 22-21 win. The schedule tour of old conference opponents continues with a trip to Munster this week - can the Panthers start 2-0 for the second straight year?

If Week #1 is any indication, Calumet won’t have issues on the road - which is a good thing considering their first five games of the 2022 campaign are away from Calhoun Street. With a 56-20 win over Bowman in the rearview mirror, the Warriors can now turn their attention to future GSSC foe West Side. Calumet got the shutout win last year in the first ever meeting between the two programs and you know their sites are set on blanking the Cougars once again this week.
If Week #1 is any indication, Calumet won’t have issues on the road - which is a good thing considering their first five games of the 2022 campaign are away from Calhoun Street. With a 56-20 win over Bowman in the rearview mirror, the Warriors can now turn their attention to future GSSC foe West Side. We knew there’d be some early growing pains for the Vikings, and that proved to be the case in the opening week, as the Vikes fell to Penn 35-7. We’re still giving Valpo the benefit of the doubt for now considering they lost to a 2021 sectional champ and the game was on the road. A win this week against a high octane Hammond Central squad keeps them ranked, but what a loss – would that cause more than a two spot drop in the rankings? If it does, it could lead to Valpo being out of the poll for the first time in a LONG time.

But the good news for Brickie fans is that a loss to the Trojans isn’t exactly an omen for things to come, as Hobart has had a winning record in each of those seasons - so it's not time to panic just yet. We can’t exactly say it gets easier this week with Merrillville (more on them later) coming to The Brickyard on Friday, but at least we know Hobart will be battle tested as the season goes on.

The Trojan defense stepped up in big moments with a TD of their own as well as a couple fourth down steps in the red zone, while the offense minimized mistakes and kept the sticks moving to control possession. We’ll find out how legit this Chesterton team is on Friday when they head to 1-0 Warsaw.

The Pirates come into the season at the number two spot, but that doesn’t mean the RSN pollsters are down on the Bucs by any stretch of the imagination. Despite some big graduation losses, the Purple Gang still has a roster of talent and a run to Indianapolis, especially now that they’re in 5A is definitely possible…and so is the top spot in the Top 10, as the Bucs take on the top ranked squad in “The Battle of Broadway”.
