Lake Central ace pitcher Peyton Pepkowski was recently named as Miss Softball for the 2021 season.
Pepkowski, who will play collegiately at Loyola, was dominant for the Indians this season, finishing with a 22-1 record and a 0.45 ERA. In 139 innings pitched, the senior struck out 224 hitters compared to just six walks.
“Peyton is one of the fiercest competitors that I have ever coached,” Lake Central head coach Jeff Sherman said. “She is an extremely hard worker both on and off the field, and that has helped her with much of her success. She excels in the classroom, the weight room, and on the softball diamond. She has the uncanny ability to get people out with “her” pitch. She never gives in to hitters, and very rarely makes mistakes with her locations. She was also a great leader for us; she has helped guide our younger players and showed them what hard work is necessary to have a successful season/career.”
Pepkowski is the first Region softball player to win the Miss Softball award since Miranda Elish in 2016. Other Region winners include Kiley Jones of Portage (2015), Katie Mitchell from Lake Central (2005), Brooke Baker, also from LC (2003), Portage’s Wendy Cannon (1999), Leslie Rossa of Lake Central (1995), and Stacy Hrabota of Valpo (1993).
