FOOTBALL: Crown Point Hires Craig Buzea

The Crown Point Board of School Trustees has officially approved the hiring of Craig Buzea as the high school’s new varsity football coach.

A Region native, Buzea spent the past 10 seasons at Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Illinois, compiling a 924-24 record while leading the Vikings to the 2014 state championship game.

Prior to heading to the Land of Lincoln, Buzea coached at Portage from 1994 through 2006, taking the Indians to the state finals in his first year, and then at Michigan City from 2007-2009. In total he has a 213-87 career record.

“Coach Buzea’s reputation as a football coach in Indiana and Illinois

is exemplary,” Crown Point Athletic Director Bill Dorulla said in a press release. He builds championship teams wherever he coaches. In addition, he serves as an ambassador for his student-athletes. We are excited for our football program and community.”

“My family and I look forward to becoming a part of the outstanding Crown Point community while building a championship caliber football program; one which all Bulldog fans will be very proud of and will embrace,” Buzea stated. “I can’t wait to start working with our student-athletes and begin preparing to “unleash” the Bulldogs for the 2021 season.”
