It’s the Top 10 for Week #7 with some shakeup near the top!
#1 |
LAPORTE SLICERS 6-0/4-0 |
↔
Last Week: #1
The Slicers proved just how good their offense is against Merrillville on Friday. This team can flat out move the ball. Week seven has the Crown Point Bulldogs coming to the Maple City. Unless there’s a letdown, expect the team in orange to get the better of the team in red and be right back here next week.
#2 |
VALPARAISO VIKINGS 4-2/3-1 |
↔
Last Week: #2
The Vikings are a two-point conversion way from being #1. This week the gang in green heads west on Rt. 30 to play the purple gang. If the trend continues, expect to see a shootout. Should be a fun one on Broadway.
#3 |
MICHIGAN CITY WOLVES 5-1/3-1 |
↑
Last Week: #4
As the season goes on, the Wolves are proving to be the most improved team overall in the DAC, maybe in the entire area. Perhaps the second most improved is their opponent this Friday, the Portage Indians. That said, if City wants to hold on to their status for another week, they better bring their A game. You can’t rest on your laurels when you play in the Duneland.
#4 |
MERRILLVILLE PIRATES 3-3/2-2 |
↑
Last Week: #5
It’s not often a team loses and moves up in the poll, but that’s the case with the Pirates. As things start to get settled among the big boys, we can see who’s who. And while the Bucs have room to improve, especially on defense, they’ve shown they can hang with just about everybody in the Region. Of course, playing a Duneland schedule means you can’t take a week off. Example: this Friday Gang Green, the #2 team in the Northwest Indiana, descends on Demarree.
#5 |
PORTAGE INDIANS 4-2/3-1 |
↑
Last Week: #6
The red Indians only won a single game all of last season. This year they’re sitting at #5 as we enter the final third of the regular season. No matter what happens from here on out, this program has taken a big step forward. Look for a good one along Rt 6 this week, as the Wolves come howling in to the Warpath.
#6 |
HANOVER CENTRAL WILDCATS 6-0/4-0 |
↑
Last Week: #8
The Wildcats are coming off the biggest win in their school’s short football history. The thrashing of Whiting, who was ranked # 1 in at least one Class 2A state poll, was nothing short of impressive. This week is Homecoming at Hanover, so expect a packed house and party-like atmosphere. Pete K and his Cats should get a warm reception from the home folks.
#7 |
HOBART BRICKIES 4-2/3-1 |
↑
Last Week: #10
The Brickies are this season’s Jeckyl and Hyde team. Pick ’em to win and they let you down. Count ’em out and they’ll prove you wrong. A victory at the Inferno is never easy, so the Bricksters earn some points for that. This week has them traveling to the Marsh Lands, where an angry herd of horses awaits their arrival.
#8 |
WHITING OILERS 5-1/3-1 |
↓
Last Week: #3
The Oilers got a wake up call on Friday, suffering their first shutout since 2011. But just because Whiting is down a little bit doesn’t mean they’re out. This may only re-focus them, as their sights are set on a return trip to the Circle City.
#9 |
GRIFFITH PANTHERS 4-2/3-1 |
↑
Last Week: NR
The Panthers reaped the benefits of a missed call for a touchdown and four Munster turnovers. Big Ben’s new breed of Black & Gold aren’t quite the bad boys of yesteryear, but they do have one thing in common with those teams: they want to win on Friday night – more than you do.
#10 |
MUNSTER MUSTANGS 3-3/2-1 |
↓
Last Week: #9
Say what you will about missed calls, but when you turn the ball over four times in a game, you’re digging yourself a pretty big hole – even without the errors from the zebras. Still, the ‘Stangs find themselves just half a game back in the NCC race, so a win over Hobart this Friday would greatly help their conference title aspirations.
