Brandon Dawson – Lew Wallace Hornets
The number one ranked player in the Region did it again. On Friday night, sophomore Brandon Dawson had a breakout night against the Roosevelt Panthers. In the Hornets’ 77-68 win, the 6’6” Dawson registered a double-double, scoring 34 points and pulling down 17 boards. Dawson also threw in seven steals to complete his night.

DeJuan Marrero – Thea Bowman Eagles
On Tuesday night the Bowman Eagles took out their frustrations, from their first loss of the season out on Covert Michigan and scored 110 points. In the high scoring affair, sophomore DeJuan Marrero was at it again, this time grabbing 13 rebounds and dumping in 23 points.

Image10. Wheeler (13-4; Last Week: NR)
With only one conference loss, the Bearcats are bucking for a shot at the title. It’ll all come down to the home-and-home series with Whiting on the 18th and 19th, just as long as they don’t have a letdown against Lake Station on the 15th.

Image9. Clark (13-5; Last Week: #10)
The Pioneers come into the week with an eight game winning streak. Another eight games remain before the tournament, including conference battles with Gavit and Morton, followed by end of the season tilts with Highland and LaPorte. They’ve got an outside shot at 20 wins, but they’ll need to finish strong.

Image10. WHITING (21-6; Last Week: NR) The Oilers move back into the final poll of the season thanks to an impressive 4-0 week that included an impressive 2-1 win over Westville in 11 innings. Ashley Pokraka looks to be ready for the sectionals as she struck out 18 while giving up only three hits in the game. THIS WEEK: Sectional #49 opener vs. Kouts

Image9. LAKE CENTRAL (16-10; Last Week: #9)
The Indians ended the regular season nicely by defeating Chesterton 7-1. Abby Rouch did a nice job on the mound getting the win while giving up only two hits to Trojan batters. The Indians go into the sectional in an unfamiliar position by not being the favorite, but they will be helped by having the home field advantage. THIS WEEK: Sectional #1 opener vs. Morton

Meghan Bunch – LaPorte
The sophomore pitcher had a nice week pitching with 4-0 shutout over Merrillville and a 5-0 shutout over Elkhart Central, giving up only five hits combined in the two games.

10. Bishop Noll (16-4, 6-1) Last Week – NR
Bishop Noll re-enters the RSN Top Ten in the #10 slot after a hard fought, come from behind win over Catholic arch-rival Andrean. The Warriors have all the tools necessary for a long tournament run, so hopefully they have learned they have to bring their “A” game every night. Sectional #33 is no cake walk and Noll opens with Lake Station on Friday, a team that already took the Warriors into overtime this season.

9. La Porte (13-7, 8-6) Last Week – NR
La Porte played through a lot of tough luck early in the season, losing some close ballgames but after a strong finish, reappear in the RSN Top Ten in the #9 slot after a prolonged absence. They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and the Slicers appear to be a mentally tougher team heading into the post season which makes them a dangerous club to play. Although sectional #2 in class 4A is still a meat grinder, La Porte could be a dark horse. The Slicers open with Crown Point on Tuesday.
